Start with the setting
A sheltered porch, a covered gazebo and an exposed pergola are different environments. Before choosing a fan, look at where rain can reach it, how the ceiling is built and where the power connection will sit. These details matter as much as the finish.
Check the rating of the exact version
Damp-rated and wet-rated are not interchangeable. A damp-rated model belongs in a covered location protected from direct rain. For a more exposed location, choose a version explicitly rated for that setting and follow its installation instructions. An outdoor rating does not make every outlet, extension lead or mounting arrangement suitable for rain.
Decide whether you want light
Some Linher wood-fan families include both fan-only and fan-light versions. A fan-only design can work alongside existing lighting. A fan light brings both functions to the same point overhead. Compare the exact version before ordering; a matching shape or model family does not mean the light kit is included.
Plan the mounting and power together
A plug-in cord offers a different setup from hardwiring, but either approach still needs the correct structural support. Check the mounting method, the length and route of the cord, and the total installed height in the model instructions. A pergola crosspiece should not be assumed to support a rotating fan. Ask a qualified installer to assess the structure and electrical work.
Let the proportions guide you
Measure the space beneath the mounting point and consider nearby beams, walls, doors and furniture. Compare the listed fan diameter and installed height with your measurements. Keep the clearances required by the specific manual. Photographs show style; dimensions determine fit.
